As an only child, Rico Ricketson admits he never learned to share. But in June 2016, while celebrating his birthday in France with a group of friends — including his partner Zach Englum, 32, a content marketing manager at Target Data — he had an idea: “I wanted to surprise Zach,” says Ricketson, 41, client service lead at Razorfish Health. “Not only were we there celebrating my 40th, but I proposed on the same day. I Skyped in his family from Paris, Illinois … and we released Chinese lanterns for family that has departed.”

The same loving spirit was present for the couple’s Dec. 2 wedding at the Milwaukee Art Museum: Ricketson’s family crest motto “Prend moi tel que je suis” (which translates to “Take me as I am”) was written on a large greenery wall, and the 111 guests had a part in surprising Englum by singing along to “I Got U” by Duke Dumont at the reception. “The groomsmaids started lip-syncing the lyrics in the beginning, and the groomsmen played bongo drums,” Ricketson remembers. “Everyone else had their napkins in the air.”

After the nuptials, the jet-setting newlyweds — who live in Lincoln Park — traveled to Cape Town and Zambia, South Africa, for an exotic and adventurous honeymoon.
